Rich hand-dyed colours and sensual fibres are central in the creation of each piece. Whether it is a woven birch limb stretching over a red winter landscape or light dancing on the hand-dyed yarns, each reflect Marni's attention to her surrounding environment. This is evident in much of Marni's tapestry work as it embodies the lines and rhythms of the natural world. The area where Marni's home/studio is located is a perfect composition of farm fields stretching up into treed hillsides and the slow rocky descent again into the lake and river.

While studying at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Marni was introduced to the world of textiles. The myriad of weaving and dyeing techniques fascinated her and she continues to explore the endless possibilities. Texture, light and colour have always played important roles in Marni's work whether it is aesthetic or metaphoric. The choice to use fibre as a means of expression is an extension of Marni's interest in the history of weaving and dyeing and the role of women in this history.
