Artist Bonnie
Bews works in Hinterglas; a traditional form of glass
painting which dates back to the 3rd century Rome.
Bonnie learned
the technique of ‘painting on the reverse side of glass’
in Germany. This is where she apprenticed to a well known
Bavarian Glass painter, Rudolf Schmid.
Since this three
month apprentice in 1992, Bonnie’s visions have been
solely expressed on glass. The medium used by the
artist is a unique combination of graphite and watercolour
that allows her to achieve soft delicate lines and
translucent colours.
Bonnie draws her
inspiration from the natural environment in which she
lives. A CASTLE studio as her workspace overlooks a
whimsical garden surrounded by an oak forest; this offers
her an intriguing platform in which the imagination takes
a fanciful flight! As we draw closer we are intrigued when
we discover the unexpected world of fairies, frogs and
dragonflies!
