If you are, or someone you know, is unable to get out to the library, consider participating in the Library Shut-in Service.  Library volunteers are available to pick up and deliver library materials for people who are registered in this programme.  Simply call the library to register; the library staff will keep your library card on file in house and maintain a record of the particular types of books that you enjoy.  We will also keep a record of the materials that have been supplied through the service to avoid duplication. All the library volunteers who pick up and deliver the books have a clear OPP Criminal Records check, in order to protect our valued patrons.
After Spring Break all the popular children’s programs will be starting up again.  Remember to register your children from 0 to 3 years in one of the two weekly Rhythm, Rhymes & Tunes programs on Wednesdays – one runs from 10.00-10.45 a.m., the other 11:00-11.45.  Also on Wednesday, children aged 6-9 are invited to join the After School Club, or, for ages 10-13, the Pre-Teen Club on Thursday.  Both of these programs run from 3.30-4.30 p.m. and registration is required.
Two of the children’s programs in the library do not require registration.  The first is the monthly Tuesday Craft Day, for children of all ages up to six years.  This spring the Craft Day dates are: April 6, May 4 and June 1.  The other program that does not require registration is the Friday Drop-In Story Time, again for all children up to six years old, every Friday between 11 a.m. and 12 noon.
Finally, for children of all ages, mark your calendars for May 17 between 11.00 a.m. and noon for the return of Reading with Ronald McDonald.  Registration is required for this popular event.  For more information on any of the programs, or to register, please drop into the library or call 687-3382.
The annual Travel the World at Your Library has got off to a good start; but there are still several exotic places left to visit in the final three Tuesdays of March.  On March 16, join us for a tour through Historic Montreal with Mary Jean and Jack Cline.  The following week, March 23rd, Caralene and Bob Clement will introduce us to China.  And finally you are invited to explore Germany with Christine and Gerry Tanner.  All of the sessions are free of charge and everyone is welcome.  The programs start at 7.00 p.m. and run for one hour.
A big thank-you to all the library patrons and friends who participated in the Gravenhurst Library’s Canada Reads challenge.  The ballots have been counted, and Gravenhurst’s favourite read is, Anne-Marie MacDonald’s book, Fall on Your Knees.  So, how close were we to the national choice?  CBC announced the result on Friday, March 12th…….
