| I was born and
raised in Willowdale, just North of Toronto in 1951. I had roots in
Muskoka as my grandparents owned and operated Pinelands Lodge in
the 1960s so it stands to reason that I would settle here. In 1985, I
finally made the move to permanently reside on Highway 118 just outside
of Port Carling.
From the years 1988 to 2003, I
was owner and operator of a construction company working in the Muskoka
and surrounding area. I had always been interested in art of all kinds
as both of my parents were commercial artists by trade. I had gone to
work with my mother many times to the art studio of the Simpson Sears
catalog company when I was very young. There, I was able to use any
number of art supplies to keep occupied.
As a young mother myself, I had
been interested in taking up stained glass long ago but was not
comfortable with all the glass and chemicals around the children so it
was put on hold. One day in 1999, I was walking past Morton Stained
Glass in Gravenhurst and saw a sign that offered lessons. I have
never looked back.
I loved the medium of
glass because it is ever changing in the light of day as the sun moves
and the seasons change in the background. I
am especially intrigued by the flow and ebb of the glass
itself from which I get a great deal of my inspiration and design
concepts. I sometimes just let the glass tell me where it is going.
Sometimes when I am walking I will spot a pebble or stone with
a picture in it just right for my next piece. I will continue to
let Mother Nature inspire me and just let it flow.
My studio is hand built by
myself out of logs using the technique known as cordwood construction
method and. it in itself. offers some good inspiration.
