| It is amazing how a small event can change a person’s
life. In 2002, I bought a digital camera for work (I’m a technical
writer by profession) and took it outside to take some photographs of
the flowers in my garden. In those few minutes, I found the creative
outlet I had been looking for all my life.
I am a self-taught photographer. I learned my craft by
experimentation, lots of reading, submitting my photographs on the web
for others to critique, and mostly by participating in a weekly digital
photography competition that I found online at www.dpchallenge.com.
At dpchallenge.com, a new theme is set each week, and its purpose is to
stimulate creativity while learning basic photography techniques.
In the past 3 years, I’ve tried my hand at all types of
photography: nature detail, scenic, architecture, still-life, a friend’s
wedding, events, wildlife, and abstract. Close-up detail photographs are
the ones that excite me the most regardless of whether they are natural
or man-made subjects. I have so many photography projects planned for
myself – I shall be very busy for the rest of my life!
The images I create start with photographs taken in the area around
my house or during my brief jaunts out and about. My photographs show
the interesting diversity that can be found in our own back yards, or
portray brief moments of time that are easily missed because of busy
hectic lives. Lately, photographs that contain interesting shapes,
textures, or patterns have been especially fun for me to work with.
Digital imaging technology allows me to be the painter I always wanted
to be.
My work is available for viewing and purchase on my web
site, or wherever I happen to be showing my work. |
