"As
I paint, I hope to simplify the immediate moment as it
occurs on the landscape. I use colour and light to melt
impressionism with realism so that the viewers may draw
their personal experiences with nature to complete the
paintings." |

Artist’s
statement: For
me painting is fun and freeing in the same way swimming or
dancing is for some people. I use my canvases to make
impressions of the culture that creates Canada inspired by
the atmosphere seeping from our landscape. Colour,
patterns, lightness, and rhythm inhabit my art. I look for
structures in what I see and imagine the scientific as
well as the spiritual forces that are at play. My
paintings are intended to identify specific elements in
the natural world: things that change quickly like cloud
shadows, other changes that take centuries. I use colour
and light to melt impressionism with realism so the viewer
may draw from their personal experiences to complete each
piece.
